Electroplating
Last week we made a battery with an ice cube tray, vinegar, copper wires, and galvanized nails. After the experiment Able put all the nails in a jar with vinegar and dissolved the zinc off. The solution turned a copper color. He’s been asking to electroplate things with his zinc solution for a week, so tonight we set up the power supply, added sugar and salt to the zinc vinegar solution, and ran a few copper nails and odd steel washers through the process. Amazing to watch the zinc come out of solution and deposit on the metal parts. Also noticed how quickly rust dropped off steel when hooked up to the negative electrode and placed in the vinegar.
